Miriam Ernst was born in 1981 in Berne and grew up in an artistic environment. After a training as a primary school teacher she studied Science of Theater and Film at the Universities of Berne and Zurich (2009). At the same time she had her first experiences in practical filmmaking with joining the group of autodidactical filmmakers "KAF" (Klasse Autodidaktischer FilmerInnen) and attending several courses at the College of Visual Arts Berne.
In 2014, Miriam Ernst applied to the National Film and Television School (UK) with
a film about a tradition from the region in which she had been raised and was selected for the two year course MA Directing Documentary.
Since 2016 she has been working as a freelance director and cinematographer, realising her own films as well as commissioned work. In 2018, the filmmaker completed her first feature film NARRENBÜHL (The Fool On The Hill), a long-term project about the artistic work of her father.
Miriam Ernst lives in Berne and Amsterdam and a new adventure with little Robin has just recently begun.
